Vision of Paris art by Marc Chagall in the year 1960. "For my art, I needed Paris as necessary as a tree does need water", Chagall used to say when he was asked about the reasons for the departure from his native Russia. He seemed to suffocate by the silence, sadness and lack of color, which his hometown and family environment must have radiated at that time. Paris became Chagall's second home, it represented for him the longed-for freedom and versatility. Not surprising, then, that Chagall's Paris pictures always included a firework of colors.
